Jason Swinehammer (Canada, 1973) and Gus Moystad (Norway, 1992) did not realize just how many themes their art work shared until they started to install this exhibition. Themes exploring fragile masculinity, anxiety, sexuality, dreams and folklore, their works touch on the subtle and extreme inner and outer workings of the human condition.
About Jason
I react visually to the world, inside and outside of my head…that is what my art is about….you and me….good and bad…love and hate…evil hidden in all things…beauty found in the ugly
Jason Alan Swinehammer (b. 1973, Canada) studied at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in Halifax, Nova Scotia in Canada. He graduated with an Interdisciplinary Fine art degree in 2003.
For the last 10 years the majority of his work has been produced digitally, but he has always returned to pen and pencil on paper. He has a distinct style but his themes are constantly in flux. He is a versatile artist with and interesting take on drawing and perception of the world around me. His work has been described as graphic surrealist pop art.
About Gus
Gus Moystad (b. 1992 NO/NL) is an artist, writer and livestoryteller based in Amsterdam. Through material research, interdisciplinary practice, and tender, psychedelic images and organic forms, he continues to expand a unique and strange secondary world in which his characters and images take place
His interest in fantasy, utopia, bodies, identity, history and politics means his work spans fiction and nonfiction but can always be drawn back to comment on the world around us. Stylistically derived from a Tintin childhood and the alternative comics scene in Europe and America, it is meant for the melodramatic who embrace the phantasmagorical and the grotesque, but can find comfort in beauty and silent rumination. www.gusmoystad.com
