[ENGLISH TEXT BELOW] Van donderdag 10 tot en met zondag 13 april 2025 verandert de Plantage Dok in een bruisende ruimte van experiment en beweging met In the Next Step, Everything Changes. Dit vierdaagse event brengt een dynamische mix van tentoonstellingen, live events, performances, workshops, filmscreening en een rondleiding.
Hier ligt niets vast — werk ontvouwt zich, neemt nieuwe wendingen en maakt het maakproces zichtbaar. Kunstenaars, makers en denkers tonen werk dat nog nooit eerder is gepresenteerd, een keerpunt markeert in hun praktijk of zich midden in een experimentele fase bevindt. In the Next Step, Everything Changes heeft geen eindpunt, maar een tussenruimte waarin alles nog kan kantelen.
Dit is meer dan een tentoonstelling; het is een plek waar kunst nog kan veranderen en waar bezoekers en makers in gesprek gaan. Het thema ‘in beweging’ draait om verandering, migratie en verhuizen — zowel fysiek als mentaal. Het gaat over verschuivende grenzen en hoe verplaatsing invloed heeft op identiteit, herinnering en verbondenheid.

Activiteiten
In the Next Step, Everything Changes opent op donderdag 10 april om 19.30 met een workshop van Claire van der Mee en een performance van Alex Winters, gevolgd door een DJ-set van DJ Lian en DJ Dané. Vanaf 19.00 kun je genieten in het café van een vegan maaltijd van 10,- euro.
Van vrijdag 11 tot en met zondag 13 april is de tentoonstelling geopend van 11.00 – 17.00, inloop gratis. Hiernaast zijn er allerlei activiteiten in de tentoonstellingsruimte waar je aan kan deelnemen:
Op zaterdag 12 april staat de tentoonstellingsruimte in het teken van een intensief workshop-programma.
Op zondag 13 april geeft Dané Vonk de laatste workshop om 14.00. Daarna sluiten we de dag en het event af met een tour langs de hele tentoonstelling; dit is een moment om samen met kunstenaars, deelnemers en bezoekers terug te kijken op wat is ontstaan. Dan heffen we het glas, voordat we weer de wereld instappen: In the Next Step, Everything Changes. (Laten we het hopen!)
PROGRAMMA WORKSHOPS
Van 10 t/m 13 april 2025 verandert Plantage Dok in Amsterdam in een bruisende werkplaats van ideeën en materiaal. In de grote zaal, waar tegelijkertijd ook de tentoonstelling In the Next Step, Everything Changes te zien is, kun je deelnemen aan maar liefst vijf workshops!
Het event In the Next Step, Everything Changes is een levendige ruimte waarin kunst zich ontvouwt, verschuift en reageert op wie er binnenkomt. De workshops vormen het kloppende hart van dit proces. Het zijn momenten van ontmoeting, experiment en gezamenlijk maken. Hier deel je niet alleen een tafel, maar ook verhalen, technieken en perspectieven.
Maken en meebewegen
Je gaat aan de slag onder begeleiding van kunstenaars die ook werk laten zien in de tentoonstelling. In een omgeving waar niets vastligt, nodigen deze sessies uit tot proberen, falen en opnieuw beginnen. Aan het einde van de dag (zondag 13 april) sluiten we gezamenlijk af; alle kunstenaars zijn aanwezig, en je kunt dan je werk mee naar huis nemen.
Het thema ‘in beweging’ draait om verandering, migratie en verplaatsen — zowel fysiek als mentaal. In de workshops benaderen de makers dit thema elk op hun eigen manier, in hands-on sessies waarin je werkt met textiel, patronen en transfertechnieken op papier en stof. Midden in de expositieruimte, aan grote tafels, worden ideeën omgezet in materie. Wat ontstaat, blijft zichtbaar als onderdeel van de tentoonstelling. Het is een momentopname van vier dagen groei, beweging en uitwisseling.

Iedereen is welkom! Deelname aan de workshops is op donatiebasis (pay what you can, richtprijs vanaf €10 per workshop, gebaseerd op materiaalgebruik). Je kunt kiezen voor één workshop, of meerdere combineren—bijvoorbeeld tijdens de workshopmarathon op zaterdag 12 april van 11:30 tot 16:30.

Workshop: Wat neem je mee naar nieuwe plekken?
DOOR Claire van der Mee MET Collage, textiel, tranfer
We nemen allemaal iets mee naar nieuwe plekken – een voorwerp, een gedachte, een gevoel. In deze workshop met Claire van der Mee verbeelden we die herinneringen in collage op stof. Met knipwerk, transfervellen en een hittepers creëren we samen een collectieve quilt, die gedurende vier dagen een groeiend kunstwerk in de expositie In the Next Step, Everything Changes wordt.
Op zondagmiddag 13 april kan je jouw bijdrage ophalen, of maak in de week erop een afspraak met Eva Schippers (schipperseva@gmail.com) om je herinnering op te halen!

Workshop: Kan ik je helpen als ik mijn was buiten hang?
DOOR Aukje Koelstra WAT textiel, verf, sjabloon
In deze workshop ga je samen met kunstenaar Aukje Koelstra aan de slag met gebruikt huishoudtextiel, verf en andere materialen. Vanuit haar activistische blik op textiel, natuur en mens, nodigt Aukje je uit om te werken met symboliek en betekenis. Textiel is al eeuwenlang drager van geheime boodschappen. Samen onderzoeken we oude tekens en maken we nieuwe, als wegwijzers voor wie ze nodig heeft.

Workshop: Manifest printing
DOOR Yasia Khomenko/ RCR KHOMENKO SAMOPRINT MET textiel, transfer
In deze hands-on workshop ga je aan de slag met SAMOPRINT. Dit is een interactieve, DIY-printmethode die draait om recycling en duurzaamheid. Samen onderzoeken we hoe textiel een krachtig middel kan zijn voor sociale of politieke expressie. Vanuit archetypische beelden knip, herschik en combineer je tot jouw eigen visuele statement.
Neem een kledingstuk mee waarop je kunt werken en laat je stem zien in print!

Workshop: In beweging/ Riso printing
DOOR Maaike Bol/ Maiami Prints WAT Riso print, collage, waterverf
In deze workshop duiken we samen in het idee van bewegende lijnen en de migratie van planten, dieren en mensen. We starten met het maken van een gezamenlijke Zine, en jij bouwt mee aan dit verhaal! We experimenteren met analoge technieken zoals collage en waterverf, en je ontdekt op speelse wijze de wereld van Riso printen. Daarna gaan we écht aan de slag: we printen de Zine, en jij krijgt natuurlijk een exemplaar mee naar huis.

Workshop: Thuis in beweging
DOOR Dané Vonk WAT Papier, tekenen, bouwen
Hoe beïnvloedt het verhuizen en het verplaatsen van je thuis je identiteit? Samen met Dané Vonk onderzoeken we deze vragen aan de hand van papier. We bouwen een model met façades van huizen waarin we hebben gewoond. We denken terug aan de herinneringen in deze huizen, en reflecteren op de wooncrisis en het gedoe rondom verhuizen. Een interactieve workshop voor iedereen die zich weleens heeft afgevraagd wat ‘thuis’ nu eigenlijk betekent.

Exhibition and workshops | working in motion & experiments
From Thursday 10 to Sunday 13 April 2025, the Plantage Dok will transform into a vibrant space of experiment and movement with In the Next Step, Everything Changes. This four-day event brings a dynamic mix of exhibitions, live events, performances, workshops, film screening and… a tour.
Nothing is fixed here — work unfolds, takes new turns and makes the creative process visible. In the Next Step, Everything Changes has no end point, but an in-between space in which everything can still go either way. It is a place where art and ideas can still develop and where visitors and makers engage in dialogue.The theme ‘in motion’ revolves around change, migration and moving — both physically and mentally. It is about shifting borders and how displacement affects identity, memory and connection.

Activities
In the Next Step, Everything Changes opens on Thursday, April 10 at 7:30 PM with a collective workshop by Claire van der Mee and a live drawing performance by Alex Winters, followed by a DJ set by DJ Lian and DJ Dané. From 7 p.m. you can enjoy an Ethiopian meal for 10 euros in the café.
The exhibition is open from Friday April 11 to Sunday April 13 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., admission is free. In addition, there are all kinds of activities in the exhibition space that you can participate in:
On Saturday April 12, the exhibition space will be dedicated to an intensive workshop program by Aukje Koelstra, Yasia Khomenko [SAMOPRINT] en Maaike Bol/ Maiami Prints.
On Sunday April 13, Dané Vonk will give the last workshop at 2 p.m. We then end the day and the event with a tour: this is a moment to look back on what has come together with artists, participants and visitors. Then we raise a glass before we step back into the world: In the Next Step, Everything Changes. (Let’s hope so!)
Program workshops
From April 10 to 13, 2025, Plantage Dok in Amsterdam will transform into a vibrant workshop of ideas and materials. In the large hall, where the exhibition In the Next Step, Everything Changes can also be seen, you can participate in no fewer than five workshops!
The event In the Next Step, Everything Changes is a lively space in which art unfolds, shifts and responds to who enters. The workshops are the beating heart of this process. These are moments of meeting, experimenting and making things together. Here you not only share a table, but also stories, techniques and perspectives.
Making
You will work under the guidance of artists who also show work in the exhibition. In an environment where nothing is set in stone, these sessions invite you to try, fail and start again. At the end of the day (Sunday April 13) we close together; all artists are present, and you can then take your creation home.
The theme ‘in motion’ revolves around change, migration and moving — both physically and mentally. In the workshops, the makers each approach this theme in their own way, in hands-on sessions in which you work with textiles, patterns and transfer techniques on paper and fabric. In the middle of the exhibition space, at large tables, ideas are converted into matter. What is created remains visible as part of the exhibition. It is a snapshot of four days of growth, movement and exchange.

Everyone is welcome! Participation in the workshops is on a donation basis (pay what you can, target price from €10 per workshop, based on material use). You can choose one workshop, or combine several—for example during the workshop marathon on Saturday April 12 from 11:30 AM to 4:30 PM.

Workshop: What do you take with you to new places?

We all take something with us to new places – an object, a thought, a feeling. In this workshop with Claire van der Mee we depict those memories in collage on fabric. Using cutting, transfer sheets and a heat press, we create a collective quilt together, which becomes a growing work of art in the exhibition In the Next Step, Everything Changes over four days.
You can collect your contribution on Sunday afternoon, April 13, or make an appointment with Eva Schippers (schipperseva@gmail.com) the following week to collect your memory!

Workshop: Can I help you if I hang my laundry outside?

In this workshop you will work with artist Aukje Koelstra with used household textiles, paint and other materials. From her activist view on textiles, nature and people, Aukje invites you to work with symbolism and meaning. Textiles have carried secret messages for centuries. Together we investigate old signs and create new ones, as signposts for those who need them.

Workshop: Manifest printing

In this hands-on workshop you will get started with SAMOPRINT. This is an interactive, DIY printing method that revolves around recycling and sustainability, developed by Yasia Khomenko. Together we explore how textiles can be a powerful means of social or political expression. You cut, rearrange and combine from archetypal images to create your own visual statement.
Bring a piece of clothing you can work on and show your voice in print!

Workshop: In motion/ Riso printing

In this workshop we will dive together into the idea of moving lines and the migration of plants, animals and people. We start by creating a joint Zine, and you help build this story! We experiment with analog techniques such as collage and watercolor, and you discover the world of Riso printing in a playful way. Then we really get to work: we print the Zine, and of course you get a copy to take home.

Workshop: Moving at home

How does moving and moving around your home affect your identity? Together with Dané Vonk we investigate these questions using paper. We build a model with facades of houses we have lived in. We think back to the memories in these houses, and reflect on the housing crisis and the hassle surrounding moving. An interactive workshop for anyone who has ever wondered what ‘home’ actually means.
