MOLK meets LOKAAL: Loma Doom, Kareem Samara, Able Noise, A Tropa

13 November @ 6:30 pm - 11:30 pm

Molk Factory is delighted to take the reigns at Lokaal to curate a diverse evening for adventurous listeners. The oud, Andean percussion, post rock abstraction and the DJ booth coalesce with electronics in experimental practices from across the globe. We present this concert at the Dokzaal in the center of Amsterdam.
Four sets of music presented this evening come from exceptional thinkers. Able Noise’s Virtuosic songwriting, Kareem’s masterful oud playing, Loma Doom’s thought provoking DJ mixing and the re-contextualization of a traditional Andean practice come together in a wildly varied evening of sound. We invite your ears and heart to join us as we delve into deep practices from our visiting artists.

Dinner from 18:30 | Concert begins at 20:00 – 00:00
Tickets sliding scale €8 – €25

Loma Doom

Sound practitioner, educator, and researcher, Loma Doom has long been immersed in both sound and education. Across lecture halls, archives, festivals, art galleries, independent radio stations, and dance floors, she orbits a central question: What if listening itself were an artistic practice? What might unfold when listening becomes method, medium, and material?

For LOKAAL, she will present ‘Open Field’: a performance sonyfying the thoughts that emerged from her research: what happens when you give something your radical attention and what is your response(ability) as a performing listener?

Able Noise
Able Noise is George and Alex’ experimental baritone guitar and drum duo, based between The Hague, the Netherlands and Athens, Greece. Through the use of voice, tape and alternative methods of playing their instruments, they create a minimal and visual musical performance. Their output is primarily focused on live concerts, letting their music be shaped by the physicality of their playing, the acoustic and aesthetic properties of the space, and the dynamics formed between themselves and their audience. Their recorded work relies less on their respective instruments, and more on an assemblage of field recordings, heavily processed instrumentation, and exploratory mixing techniques. They released their debut on the Glasgow label GLARC in 2020, and their debut LP ‘High Tide’ was released on the 1st of November 2024 through London label World of Echo.

Kareem Samara

Kareem Samara is an improviser and composer from London. Combining the Oud and Arabic percussion with loopers and samplers, he creates a new dialogue between himself and technology, between traditions and the future. He pushes the limits of what is expected of an instrument weighed down by generations of expectation, exploring every inch of the Oud to create a modern soundworld. A ceremony, a declaration of intent, where archival interviews and field recordings connect struggles and timelines, interweaving with melodies that strive to be free of borders.

He is member of 1000 Pounds to Survive Us and founder of the improvisational ensemble, I.E. Us.He has performed and collaborated with Nadah El Shazly, Ayman Asfour, Goat Girl, Ryan Harvey, Tom Morello, Tashi Dorji, Kinn, Matt Cargill, Fatima Laham and Bint Mbare.

A Tropa (under the direction of Ibelisse Guardia Ferragutti)
The last two years Ibelisse has been researching the music of her beloved Andes, in Bolivia. This music is not just ‘music’, it is part of an intricate ecosystem from an ancient but living culture. What we call rituals is merely a means to enter in a collective field, where a constant dialogue with our surroundings takes place. Sound making has a central role during these communal bondings.
For LOKAAL, Ibelisse -together with the members of AWICHAS- are extending an OPEN CALL to anyone that is curious to learn about Andean tropas or Andean Orchestras.
We will not only share Andean playful worldviews of sound making, but we will play lots of drums!

“Unlike a conventional orchestra, the ‘tropa’ operates under a logic of reciprocity and complementarity, where music is not an individual spectacle, but an act of social cohesion.”
