De traditionele wijsheid van inheemse culturen staat vaak in contrast met de hedendaagse Westerse kijk op geestelijke gezondheid. Is “gekte” een ziekte van het individu\, een mogelijkheid tot groei en/of een symptoom van een gejaagde samenleving? Hoe gaan wij als maatschappij om met geestelijke kwetsbaarheid en wat kunnen we leren van mensen die hun eigen crisis getransformeerd hebben tot een positieve ervaring?\nIn de documentaire onderzoekt regisseur Phil Borges de moderne visie binnen de Westerse geestelijke gezondheidszorg en de traditionele wijsheid van inheemse culturen\, door interviews met psychiaters en psychologen\, ervaringsdeskundigen en wetenschappers en het bezoeken van inheemse volkeren. Hij volgt twee jonge mensen\, Adam en Ekhaya\, op hun weg en worsteling naar herstel.
