SUMMARY:Oog om oog\, kindertheater voorstelling
\nRegie: Dionne Zwennicker-Norton & Freek den Hartogh\nChoreografie: Dionne Zwennicker-Norton\nMuziek: Freek den Hartogh\nPerformers: n.t.b.\nProducent: Theater Zuidplein

SUMMARY:Dok Night _ SYMBIOPSYCHOTAXICINEMA _ CLOSELY WATCHED TRAINS 1966 (Ostre sledované vlaky)
DESCRIPTION:CLOSELY WATCHED TRAINS   1966\n(Ostre sledované vlaky) \n\nDirected by Jiří Menzel\n93 minutes\nIn Czech with English subtitles \nWinner of the Academy award for Best Foreign film in 1967\, this is one of the most charming and beautiful films in the history of cinema. Made in that small gap of freedom before the Russian tanks came into Prague in 68\, this film captures perfectly the spirit of the times. \nJiří Menzel’s funny\, tragic 1966 film\, set during the 1940’s in Czechoslovakia is a real piece of nostalgia. The scene is during World War II and the Nazis are officially in control\, and actively imposing their bureaucracy on the nation. Vaclav Neckar stars as a youth working at a village railway depot\, whose chief preoccupation is a desire for sexual adventure\, but who secondarily also sees the necessity of joining the Resistance movement. He spends most of his time doing as little work as possible\, avoiding the eye of his boss\, and flirting with the young female conductor of a passing train. The film has a nice mix of rural lethargy\, surreal hints\, poetic humor and exudes a vibrant sensuality. Finally\, there is something else: the shock of a confrontation between one’s dreams and a real-world obligation\, particularly in a world gone mad through no fault of one’s own. \nIt’s a real gem of the Czech New Wave movement\, and one that never gets tiring no matter how many times one sees it… it’s like playing your favorite record. And what’s more is it is able to tap into a kind of magic that no movie today can conjure up with all our so-called progress and high-tech prowess… in fact with every step we take ‘forward’ we are losing something essential. The key words to describe this movie are bittersweet and lyrical. \nOne viewer’s comment: “Closely Watched Trains is my favorite movie ever. It is 90 minutes of cinematic perfection: funny\, sad\, exquisitely shot\, beautiful to look at (watch it twice\, so that the second time around you can focus on Menzel’s genius in composing his shots)\, and insightful–profound\, even. Its structure will make any film student drool with envy. The acting is flawless. It’s just a beautiful work of art.” \n\nPresented by Jeffrey Badcock\nA series of socially engaged movies\, screened once a month on Thursdays. Touching on such hot topics as immigration\, homelessness\, racism\, education\, radical gender propositions\, the pandemic and gentrification\, these films not only explore visionary politics\, but are also chosen to stir our imagination and creativity. The essence of cinema is the collective experience\, and these screenings are aimed at creating intimate communities again in an increasingly hectic and fragmented world. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nFilm starts at 20:30\nFree screening   Dinners are available from 19:00\n\n\n\n\n\nAncient Hostility (Liverpool\, UK)\nHarmony singing and drones from members of All In Vain and Dawn Ray’d\, singing songs about heartbreak and resistance.\nhttps://ancienthostilityfolk.bandcamp.com/album/sing-as-loud-as-you-can \nLyngfarer (Norway)Lyngfarer is the musical moniker of Norwegian multi-instrumentalist Magnus Nymo\, rooted in quiet\, pensive folk-influenced music shaped by rural landscapes and DIY\, punk\, and sci-fi cultural backgrounds. The project spans acoustic\, dark folk\, and minimal styles\, with releases like Dagen Kommer that showcase contemplative songwriting and diverse instrumentation.\nhttps://lyngfarer.bandcamp.com/ \n —\nEvery Thursday there’s a Vegan Dinner accompanying an exhibition opening/closing\, a live performance\, live music\, movie screening or …\nCome meet other people interested in art and activism\, good food and great prices. SUMMARY:SOLO for BARRE
DESCRIPTION:dance and text  :  Julyen Hamilton\nmusic recorded :  the late Barre Phillips\n\n\ndeur: 19h\, show 19.30h. \n\n\n\nAn unusual and particular event with dance and the music of the renowned bass player Barre Phillips.\nThe first bass player to make a solo bass cd/record; a master of the bass and one who has influenced (and still does) so many musicians and dancers.\n \nBarre and I played together in many line-ups but most significantly as a duo\, performing\nall over Europe – also in the States. \n \nEver since we were first introduced (a few days before our first performance together) it was clear that were understood something deep and direct about how the other worked and performed. Some unique and instant reading of each other´s  timing and sense of phrasing…how and where to be onstage\, in space and time while making dance and music in the moment.\n \nWe dedicated each our arts directly to the mind of the moment\, its instant inspiration\, bringing with us\neach our decades of experience and love for this art-form.\n \nBarre passed away a couple of years ago\, so  ´the next gig with Barre´ is no longer directly possible.\nI never thought i would wish even to dance live to his recorded music…but now the simple wish to do so\nis here….so here will be this “Solo for Barre”.\n \njulyenhamilton.com

SUMMARY:Dok Night - live music by GDVRDGDVR & Die Apokalyptischen Vier!
DESCRIPTION:Every Thursday there’s a Vegan Dinner accompanying an exhibition opening/closing\, a live performance\, live music\, movie screening or …\nCome meet other people interested in art and activism\, good food and great prices. Bring your favourite game and your friends. Or meet new people at the bar.\n18u open\n19u Vegan Food\n20:30 live music in the basement by GDVRDGDVR & Die Apokalyptischen Vier!\nGDVRDGDVR is een losgeslagen folkduo dat haar akoestische gitaren heeft verruilt voor een basic drumkit en een distorted bass. Een nieuw album is in de maak\, as we speak.\nEen recensent verwoordde het treffend: “GDVRDGDVR sounds like it’s a duo of 18 year olds recording their first songs. This is all enthusiasm\, not holding back and not spending more that a split second on what someone else might find of what they are doing. On top of it all\, behind it all\, are the songs. The pop feel\, the harmonic prowess and the fun\, loads of it!”\n\n&\nDie Apokalyptischen Vier! Zusammen gleich een nummer beginnen können ze nicht. T einde ist ook immer zoek. Maar man o man wat gaan die Vier dafur.

SUMMARY:Dok Night - DISHES album release show! & opening exhibition Hidden Faces by Viktor Lantosh
DESCRIPTION:Every Thursday there’s a Vegan Dinner accompanying an exhibition opening/closing\, a live performance\, live music\, movie screening or …\nCome meet other people interested in art and activism\, good food and great prices. Bring your favourite game and your friends. Or meet new people at the bar.\n*** \nPlantage Dok homies Dishes’ first full length album ‘Drama’ is out on vinyl on April 2nd!\nDishes is a melodic punk quintet based in Amsterdam. Since their formation in 2021\, they’ve been honing their own particular take on a genre which feels both contemporary and ageless. The melodies stick and the lyrics punch up in a way that feels relevant to how the world looks today. \n‘Drama’ is their debut full length album: 10 tracks of driving\, anthemic and wistful indie powerpoppunk out on Subroutine records. \n‘Drama’ is a soundtrack for these strange\, dark times filled with endless newsfeeds. As we keep scrolling and our consensus-reality dissolves around us\, Dishes reminds us: we can only get through this together; what we need is community\, connection\, and self-organization. \nSupport for this album release show comes from the lovely weird hardcore punk crew M.U.G. from Rotterdam! \nCome early to eat a 2 course vegan meal by Chef Lips. \n& \nOpening of the monthly exhibition Hidden Faces by Viktor Lantosh\nA debut exhibition revealing the unseen characters living in our everyday surroundings Amsterdam-based emerging photographer Viktor Lantosh is set to launch his first-ever exhibition this April\, presenting a captivating visual project titled “Hidden Faces”. Through this series\, Viktor invites viewers into a world where ordinary objects and architectural details quietly shape emotions\, personas\, and expressions—faces that remain invisible until someone looks closely enough to notice them. \nA photographer shaped by personal transformation\nViktor rediscovered photography after a long hiatus of roughly 15 years in February 2025\, in the midst of a profound personal shift. After deciding to quit smoking—an act that he describes as regaining his “inner freedom” —he began to experience the world around him with renewed clarity. He experienced creative awakening: he found himself drawn to the subtle beauty of everyday life\, especially the blooming plants that\, for him\, symbolized rebirth and the cyclical resilience of nature. This moment marked the first spark of what would later become his artistic voice. From there\, Viktor naturally gravitated toward street photography\, architectural compositions\, and travel imagery\, focusing especially on:\n“Motion & emotion” in street scenes\, capturing human–human and human–animal interactions\nThe interplay between architecture and nature\, unusual structural details\, and visual rhythms\nAtmospheric cityscapes and story-filled travel moments. \nAbout the “Hidden Faces” project\n“Hidden Faces” is the result of roughly one year of photographic exploration across Amsterdam and beyond. The series reveals how non-living objects can form expressive “faces” that seem to watch over the city. Viktor hopes attendees will approach the exhibition with curiosity—open to discovering something playful\, unexpected\, even whimsical in their everyday urban environment: “I want people to step out of their daily routines and look at their city with fresh eyes. The buildings and objects around and look at their city with fresh eyes. The buildings and objects around us hold stories… all we need is a moment of attention to see them.” \n  \nNewspaper Feature – HET PAROOL\nAlongside this exhibition\, the complete series of “Hidden Faces” will also appear in the print edition of HET PAROOL on 7 April 2026\, bringing the project to a broader public audience. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Human.VPN/someplace_else (dance graffiti) by Marina Orlova (Try out)
DESCRIPTION:Immersive hybrid dance and digital performance that connects topics of virtual presence\, border politics and psychological dissociation.\n  \nVPN is a technology used to misrepresent digital location. Dissociation is a coping mechanism of emotional detachment from reality. Information society makes it easy to feel that we are witnessing events happening elsewhere. It is hard not to become emotionally affected\, especially for people with migrant backgrounds and those around them. Doomscrolling blends real and virtual worlds. “Human.VPN” is a metaphor for the mismatch between one’s emotional and physical geolocation. \nTwo dancers interact with a projection of a digital map that is operated live. SUMMARY:Benefit supporting legal costs for survival of gender violence
DESCRIPTION:On the 10th of April\, we are organising a Voku and a music concert evening to support our comrade\, who is a survivor of gender violence and needs financial support for the legal costs. It will start with eating together\, and then a performance by a hip-hop artist\, FIG Thief\, will follow. He is an MC as well as a DJ on the turntables\, who plays a wide range of genres\, ranging from underground hip-hop from the roots to more experimental hybrid trip-hop sounds. The performance will have guest appearances by other artists with acoustic instruments and poetic interventions.\n\nThe event is organized by Bad For The Egosystem\, a collective that focuses on arts and ways to mediate our curiosity through different modes of expression. They aim to transcend the boundaries between us\, the social settings\, and the formalities that reproduce distinctions rather than fruitful frictions.

The buildings and objects around us hold stories… all we need is a moment of attention to see them.”
