SUMMARY:PUNK: HEZ (Panama)\, ROBBER (A'dam/Haarlem)
DESCRIPTION:Food at 18:00\nShow at 20:00 \nTICKETS AT DOOR ONLY \nHEZ – PANAMA – DISCOS ENFERMOS\nOverwhelming hardcore. Great riffs and hectic guitar playing varied with effects scattered around tastefully that sound like a malfunctioning computer. A bunch of plays with tempo usually introduce tense\, mid-tempo stompers that also include pedal-manipulated guitars\, and also a lot of echo/delay on the vocals.\nhttps://discosenfermospunk.bandcamp.com/\nROBBER – AMSTERDAM/HAARLEM\nRobber is a new Dutch punk outfit from Groningen/Amsterdam/Haarlem\, featuring members from Frontsector\, Traumatizer\, and OUST. Drawing inspiration from bands like BLITZ and contemporary oi\, Robber whips up a stomping melange of primitive hardcore and razor sharp rock and roll that hits like a crude slap in the face.

SUMMARY:Dok Night - Het Laatste Avondmaal & Silica\, Smetvrees en Teun & Jordu & Willem in the basement
DESCRIPTION:  \n18.00 Bar open & Vegan Food /// 2-course meal for 7 – 10 €\n20.00 Live Music: Smetvrees\, Silica & Teun en Jordu\n  \nWe’re coming together to raise urgent funds for a Black and queer student fighting to stay in the Netherlands. They’re facing a critical deadline to pay off university debt in order to re-enrol in their master’s program — a step that’s essential to renewing their visa and keeping their housing. \nDue to non-EU fees\, they had to pause their studies. Now\, re-enrolment isn’t just about education — it’s about safety\, stability\, and survival. Returning home isn’t an option: queerness is criminalized there\, and the economic situation could make leaving again impossible. \nLet’s show up in solidarity. Every contribution helps keep them housed\, safe\, and in uni. \nThere will also be a chance to write the Filton 18.\nSolidarity with the 18 pro-Palestinian activists arrested by so-called “anti-terrorist” police and imprisoned in Britain! Their only crime: trying to stop the manufacture of weapons used in the genocide in Palestine. Bij elkaar evenveel kennis en wijsheid als 2 oude mannen.\n\n—\nEvery Thursday there’s a Vegan Dinner accompanying an exhibition opening/closing\, a live performance\, live music\, movie screening or …\nCome meet other people interested in art and activism\, good food and great prices. Bring your favourite game and your friends. Or meet new people at the bar.

SUMMARY:concert: Seedlink+ & Subbacultcha invite Deleted (NY)
DESCRIPTION:Local label Seedlink+ and Subacultcha have come together to host a few phenomenal musicians from New York label Deleted including Deer park (live)\, Lilic & wish (live) and Glint (live). Local acts Ity (live) and Naina (DJ) will complete this evening in their signature playful ways. A filled evening with true label heads on the 31st of July at Dokzaal. \nDeer park is the New York based producer and vocalist will give you waves of Caribou\, Dean Blunt and Chanel Beads. Deer park has performed alongside other Subbacultcha favorites like Jawnino and his latest collaborations include Ivy Knight and jackzebra. \n\n\n\nAs if it is 2007 and you are starting up your Microsoft computer\, or your Nokia starts ringing\, or\, yeah… Glint creates textures so vividly\, it turns sound into nostalgic symbols. \nLilic & wish will provide maximalist ambient soundscapes that are clean as day with vocals in pure glitched fashion. Listen below to get a taste and get lost on the journey they will take you on. \nSeedlink+ co-founder ity is joining this mesmeric evening. ity is an amsterdam based musician focusing on the verges of electronic music. He recently released his debut album “no road no problem”. In his DJ-sets he focuses on tracks that light up the room like a flashlight in undiscovered back alleys. Long stretched harmonies and bleepy melodies are paving the way for adventure\, destination unknown. \nNaina is a new project by Go Me and Zainab Bukhari\, this time they will DJ\, maybe next time they will play live… \n\n\n—\n\nTickets: €12\,50 early bird\, €15 regular.\nFree for Subbacultcha members\nDoors: 19:00

This story zooms in on two young boys who are friends and follows their relationship for the next years\, eventually leading them to different sides of the Bosnian war that broke out in the early 1990s. By the time this movie was made\, Yugoslavia had officially perished. \nThis flick throws us into the thick of it\, and is absolutely riveting\, with great performances by all the lead actors as it juggles the politics of a chaotic time in history. It was a time when the closest friends or even families were broken apart and killing each other. This movie depicts such a tragedy\, but it is also full of humor\, wit and insights. The mechanics of the film are razor-sharp\, from the cinematography to the dialogue to the direction. It is one of the most praised movies dealing with the topic of the war in Yugoslavia\, and it shows all the absurdity\, irony\, ridiculousness and hypocrisy of any war situation. \nIt was directed by the young Yugoslavian whippersnapper Srdjan Dragojevic (We are Not Angels) who really blooms as a director here… a film that takes place in a hospital room full of severely wounded and dying soldiers\, with most of the story told through flashbacks and memories. \nThe movie is also great in how it shows how the madness escalates… starting off with something small\, but then—step by step—escalates into a furious war situation where the most unbelievable atrocities become normal. Do you think you’re immune to this kind of narrow-mindedness? I see it all around me every day. This war mentality is in the air. And now Europe is building up a huge military infrastructure—the same NATO that loves to rush into troubled areas and always thinks bombing is the best solution\, just like what happened to Yugoslavia. \n\n\nSYMBIOPSYCHOTAXICINEMA\n\n\n\n\nA series of socially engaged movies\, screened once a month on Thursdays. Touching on such hot topics as immigration\, homelessness\, racism\, education\, radical gender propositions\, the pandemic and gentrification\, these films not only explore visionary politics\, but are also chosen to stir our imagination and creativity. The essence of cinema is the collective experience\, and these screenings are aimed at creating intimate communities again in an increasingly hectic and fragmented world.

SUMMARY:Sophie Straat album release

These movies wanted to explore new ground and taboo topics. This one\, in particular\, centers on the lives of the Romani/gypsy community…. A community of people creating their own world outside of our well-regulated society. Unlike the films of Tony Gatlif and Emir Kusturica\, this flick isn’t a colorful depiction of this community\, but instead throws us into their everyday life in the Serbian countryside\, but in a deeply rich way. \nIf the black-wave films from this era were anything\, they were unsentimental\, and their freshness and vitality comes from fully engaging with life on all levels. This film is filled with harsh realities\, but also incredibly tender moments – it is lush\, swirling with passion\, and always riveting. The main character in many ways isn’t even likable… and he is not someone you are meant to identify with. This movie is more like a road trip that you have been privileged to take\, where you meet unusual people you are touched by\, not because you identify with someone\, but rather because an incredible world unfolds. The film is like a breeze from the south\, and for me it even has a kind of almost pagan mood. One of the most important movies to come out of former Yugoslavia\, a real gem in terms of reflecting on\, and capturing\, the vitality of life. \nIt’s the kind of film that takes you by the collar and drags you into another world – one of ecstasy\, harshness\, poetry\, poverty\, real dilemmas\, and magic. It won the Academy Award for best foreign film in 1967\,  Best Foreign Film Oscar in 1967 and the Special Jury Prize at Cannes. \nSYMBIOPSYCHOTAXICINEMA\n\n\n\n\nA series of socially engaged movies\, screened once a month on Thursdays. SUMMARY:Subbacultcha - Cement no.8: Jasmine Wood (AD93) + Mel Keane
DESCRIPTION:On October 17th we will be hosting the 8th edition of our beloved Cement series. This time around we have invited Jasmine Wood for a live rendition of parts of her ambient debut Piano Reverb (AD93) and newer works on grande piano. Mel Keane will join this evening filled with reverberations.\nJasmine Wood is American composer\, producer and multi-disciplinary artist based in Dublin\, Ireland. Wood initially developed her craft within the Pacific Northwest DIY scene\, curating all-ages venues in her hometown Portland\, Oregon\, while writing and performing under the monikers ‘Haste’ and ‘Lota Leona’. This year she worked together with Pavel Milyakov aka Buttechno to reconceptualize two selected works from her ambient debut “Piano Reverb” (2024). \nMel Keane is a composer and visual artist from Dublin. Drawing from Ireland’s various musical histories\, the post-emo online continuum\, minimalist composition\, and sound system culture\, his practice explores how elements of inherited sound cultures can be embraced\, rejected\, repurposed\, and fabricated. He has published music\, primarily on Irish label wherethetimegoes\, and performed live extensively across Europe under his birth name\, as Frog of Earth\, and as a member of Princ€ess (ensemble) and NECK (duo with Seán Being). \nJasmine Wood \n<span\n data-mce-type=”bookmark” style=”display: inline-block; width: 0px;\noverflow: hidden; line-height: 0;”\nclass=”mce_SELRES_start”></span><a\nhref=”https://jasminewood.bandcamp.com/album/piano-reverb”>Piano\nReverb by Jasmine Wood</a> \nMel Keane \n<a href=”https://melkeane.bandcamp.com/album/frog-of-earth”>Frog of Earth by Mel Keane</a> \nTickets are free for Subbacultcha members and 14\,60 for non-members. Please make a reservation by sending an email to mailinglist@subbacultcha.nl with ‘Cement no.8′ in the subject line + your name in the email.
