They will share with the audience their research into contemporary uses of the traditional totem. \nIn addition\, artist and researcher Mirjam Linschooten will show some of her recent projects. She questions the way we interact with (ethnographic) objects and shows how they have coloured our view of history. \nTatjana Cady\, of the Abenaki Turtle Clan shares insights and stories from her own experience as a practitioner and teacher of Abenaki Women’s Sacred Wisdom Teachings & Practices and Medicine Wheel Teachings. Tatjana comes from Abenaki\, Mohawk\, Huron\, French and German lineage. As a child she was adopted as first daughter by Grandmother Nanatasis in a traditional Abenaki family ceremony. Her spiritual practice is from the Native American Northeast Woodlands\, based in Abenaki ceremonies and teachings.
 She would say that her practice is to wake up in the morning and offer her gratitude to the first thing happens each day. “Thank you Ktsi Nwask (Creator)” for the breath of life\, thank you for the Sun and all that he brings\, thank you for the Earth Mother and all that she brings. DESCRIPTION:Wegdromen bij betoverende altviool soundscapes in de Dokzaal \nMengelmoes is een concept dat ik in 2022 heb ontwikkeld. Dit is een solo\nproject waarbij de altviool wordt gecombineerd met synthesizers en live\nelektronica waardoor een kaleidoscoop aan melancholische en kleurrijke\nsoundscapes ontstaat. Ik laat me ondersteunen door mijn zelf gecreëerde\norkest. Doel: samen met het publiek even helemaal in een andere realiteit\nstappen. \nIk breng de altviool graag ten gehore op een experimentele\, unieke manier\ndie tegelijkertijd bruggen slaat naar diverse muziekstijlen. Naast\nklassieke en elektronische elementen bevat mijn muziek ook elementen van\nminimal- \, ambient- \, Arabische en filmmuziek.\nKortom: een Mengelmoes van muziekstijlen en klanken.\nMengelmoes heeft in 2022 op diverse festivals en locaties plaatsgevonden\,\nzoals het Grachtenfestival\, Splendor Amsterdam\, De Roode Bioscoop en\nLavafest. \nMet dit concept heb ik ook de muziek mogen creëren voor de acht-delige\nYoutube documentaire ‘Kika Stories’ van Stichting Kinderen Kankervrij. In\ndeze serie worden de verschillende kanten van kinderkanker belicht. DESCRIPTION:Opening van het nieuwe seizoen met de documentaire AZART Come make Art \nopen om 18:00 \nvanaf 19:00 captain’s diner (vegan)  \ntekeningen en schilderijen van Gabriël van Hoften \nklein nautisch werk van Electric Circus \nrond 21:00 film vertoning \n \nEen 83 min documentaire van Annike Kaljouw en Masha Novikova \nSinds 1989 voer het theaterschip Azart als een zelfbenoemde ambassadeur van de vrije geest langs tientallen havens in Europa en ver daarbuiten. Zonder bonnetjes\, bankverkeer\, belastingen\, begrotingen\, maandlasten\, jaarverslagen\, loon\, adres\, post\, rekeningen of verzekeringen. Als Ship of Fools lokte ze de bewoners van grote en kleine nederzettingen naar een satirisch muziektheater op hun tribune aan wal. De tomeloze inzet van talloze artiesten uit vele landen hield het schip in de vaart. \nCome make art.\nDe gekozen scheepsnaam verwijst naar het Russische woord Azart voor De Bezieling Om Alles Op Het Spel Te Zetten. De betekenis van het woord dwaalt in de grote Europese talen rond de begrippen Kans\, Pech\, Bestemming\, Hachelijk Onderneming\, Gelegenheid\, Gevaar of Risico. Dit werd vanzelf het voorteken van vele beslagleggingen\, (bijna) botsingen en andere perikelen alsmede van een wereld- en levensreis in permanente verwondering dat het alsmaar doorging. Tot begin 2020. De pandemie verklaart het schip wereldwijd tot ongewenste gast. De dokter verklaart de schipper August Dirks tot ongeneeslijk ziek. Het schip lag in een vissershaventje in Ecuador. Om de droom te laten voortbestaan besloot de schipper zijn vaartuig cadeau te geven aan de lokale theatergroep Humor u Vida en trok in een dramatische manoeuvre het 180-tons gevaarte op het strand. \nIn 1994 benoemde de Amsterdamse gemeenteraad de ligplaats van het schip tot Azartplein. Het plein is vernoemd naar een reis die nog doorgaat. De geschiedenis ervan wordt dagelijks op Playa Azart door Ecuadoriaanse theatermakers geschreven. \nSynopsis\nDeze film vertelt de kleurrijke en vrolijke geschiedenis van het Amsterdamse narrenschip Azart. Aan het roer staat de bedenker van dit varend kunstwerk\, schipper en acteur August Dirks\, die ruim 30 jaar op het schip voer. Ik wilde een narrenschip optuigen om de wereld mee rond te varen om de lof van de zotheid te bezingen. De film vertelt hoe hij in weer en wind zijn droom waarmaakt. Het oorspronkelijke idee om met het schip naar het centrum van Australië te rijden moet hij opgeven. Hij zoekt naarstig naar een plek in Ecuador om daar het schip te laten stranden. Wij volgen August in zijn missie om het schip deze nieuwe bestemming te geven. Hij bezoekt oude vrienden en familie in Nederland en blikt terug op zijn reizen. We volgen de ontwikkeling van het plan dat een onmogelijke opgave lijkt. Maar in dezelfde bevlieging waarmee Azart de wereldzee bevoer kwam ook dit mirakel voor elkaar. Het schip staat inmiddels parmantig op het strand in Ecuador als cultureel centrum en buurttheater van een vissersdorp. Happy End\, schrijft de schipper op elf november 2021 in zijn logboek. Hij omschrijft de laatste rit van Azart als een komedie in drie akten\, met heel wat manschappen en bulldozers in de hoofdrol. Een hele dure voorstelling maar zeer memorabel\, temeer omdat het schip weer op wielen rijdt en daarmee terugkeert naar haar historische oorsprong als wielschuit of scheepswagen\, oftewel de mest uitgelaten kar van de carnavalsparade. \n  \nMotivatie\nHet idee om een documentaire te maken over het schip Azart leeft al lang en is deels door verschillende filmmakers vervuld. Er is een zeer rijk archief aan filmbeelden. Maar er werd nooit een film gemaakt die een totaaloverzicht probeert te geven van 30 jaar Azart. Nu de scheepsreis is afgelopen hebben veel filmmakers hun materiaal overgedragen. De film wordt verteld door de ogen van de kapitein. Vanuit zijn gezichtspunt ziet de kijker het verhaal van 30 jaar Azart. De film combineert recente gesprekken met August met archiefbeelden die vaak zelf al korte kunstfilmpjes zijn. Het is soms een tragikomedie\, want August verwerkt met komische elementen zelfs tragische gebeurtenissen als een dreigend bankroet of dodelijke ziekte. Zo ontstaat een kleurrijk overzicht van de wonderlijke geschiedenis van het theaterschip Een schip dat voor zovelen een bron van inspiratie is en symbool staat voor het verwezenlijken van dromen. Voor velen bleek het een springplank naar een professionele loopbaan in de kunstwereld. \nDe makers\nMasha Novikova: Ik heb eind jaren ’80 op het schip gewoond en meegevaren. Ik nam alles serieus\, alle problemen en obstakels leken me dramatisch. Van August heb ik geleerd om dingen anders te zien. Lichter. Alles komst vanzelf\, zei hij vaak. Later maakte ik veel documentaires die over oorlog en dictatuur gaan. Dat was succesvol voor mijn carrière\, maar naar mijn gevoel soms zinloos omdat oorlog en ellende niet verdwenen zijn. Deze film zou mijn eerste komische documentaire zijn\, waarin ik de lichtheid van het bestaan graag wil bezingen. Ik kijk er met positieve verwachting naar uit dat dit ook gaat lukken. \nAnnike Kaljouw: Vanaf 2017 volg ik de Azart met mijn filmcamera. In Kaap-Verdië zag ik hoe snel August contact legde met de lokale bevolking en hoe het schip een magnetische kracht uitoefende op zoveel verschillende mensen. In een wereld waar veel bepaald wordt door geld en economisch succes\, heeft August niet gekozen voor een leven in luxe. Hij wilde de VOC-route varen\, zei hij\, maar op een andere manier. Niet om te stelen en te kelen\, maar om te spelen en te delen. Het raakte mij om te zien hoeveel vrolijkheid en verwondering het schip teweegbracht bij iedereen die het kwam bezoeken. En nog steeds\, want het schip is nu een buurtcentrum op een Ecuadoriaans strandje. Toen Masha vertelde een film te willen maken over 30 jaar Azart\, heb ik mijn beeldmateriaal ter beschikking gesteld en aangeboden haar te assisteren.

What is the left plan for power? What do different organizations need from each other to build strong alliances? How will we organize to win?\nNarrative: How will we communicate our agenda? How do we show people what we are fighting for? How can we gain broad support for progressive proposals?\n\nAnd these will be structured in 3 kinds of sessions: Panel Discussions (interventions by invited speakers)\, Plenary Sessions (open and facilitated discussions with all of the participants)\, and Parallel Sessions (workshops session or focus discussion proposed by participants and organizations). \nThe Panel Discussions will set the key questions and present some key experiences and learning\, from which the parallel sessions can build on. The essence of cinema is the collective experience\, and these screenings are aimed at creating intimate communities again in an increasingly hectic and fragmented world. \n  \n \nTRINITY AND BEYOND  1995\nDirected by Peter Kuran\n93 minutes\nIn English \n\nOf course the hit summer movie Oppenheimer was a huge production\, but in some ways all that hugeness skirted behind many details\, was beating around the bush\, and wasn’t really dealing with the core issues. In that way it was a bit like “the sound in the fury\, in the end signifying nothing”. This documentary was collected together by Peter Kuran\, the guy who did all the special effects on the first Star Wars movie. It is considered by many to be the best film dealing with the development and testing of the atomic bomb. \nToday people are no longer haunted by the prospect of a nuclear war\, even though we are closer to it than ever before in history. Somehow the commodity culture and overwhelming consumerism of the society we live in\, with all its bright colors and its rapidly moving messages\, prevents people from really focusing on\, and understanding the bigger picture. And in that way the idea of a nuclear war seems remote and is trivialized. If we’re not careful\, then it won’t only be our minds that are a mess\, but our entire existence will be blasted to the wind. This movie intends to change our current mindset\, and help us understand what a powerful force of nature a nuclear explosion really is. The immensity of what we see is staggering. \nThis acclaimed flick dives into the beginnings of the creation of the nuclear bomb\, bringing in declassified archival material that wasn’t available until recently. For director Peter Kuran this was not a commercial project\, but a personal one. One of his aims was to expose footage that had been hidden for 50 years\, but also to preserve material that the United States government was intentionally allowing to deteriorate and therefore disappear forever. So one of the astounding things about this film is how much work was put into cleaning up the images and reviving them so that they have a new vitality and relevancy… the images don’t look old\, worn out or dated\, and in fact come close to a big budget studio production. \nI should point out that the film meticulously covers\, step-by-step\, the development and production of these bombs along with their detonation. The point of the film is understanding the horror of this development\, and doesn’t harp on images of human violence. Narrated by William Shatner (Star trek) it also features an original score performed by the Moscow Symphony Orchestra that has a kind of explosive dark beauty to it. \nThis will be a high definition projection. \n\n\nFree screening

DESCRIPTION:Een spectaculaire middag in de Dokzaal met legendes uit de Nederlandse impro-scene.\n\nSpace is the Place presenteert in samenwerking met het BIMHUIS een spectaculaire middag in de Dokzaal\, een verborgen parel in het centrum van Amsterdam. Het ICP Orchestra\, de godfathers van de improvisatiemuziek in Amsterdam\, spelen nog steeds met Han Bennink aan het roer en doen dit al 56 jaar met toewijding\, inventiviteit en lef. Op het programma staan verder nog jonge\, sterke muzikanten met een voorliefde voor de ICP-esthetiek en na afloop de befaamde huisgemaakte kroketten van John Pastinaak en Luc Ex. \nICP\nDe ICP\, een van de meest creatieve groepen in de moderne jazz\, werd in 1967 in het leven geroepen door drummer Han Bennink & pianist/componist Misha Mengelberg. Hoewel Mengelberg in 2017 overleed\, worden zijn composities levend gehouden door een vaste bezetting. \nMichael Moore saxofoon/klarinet\, Ab Baars saxofoon/klarinet\, Tobias Delius tenorsax\, Joost Buis trombone\, Thomas Heberer trompet\, Mary Oliver viool/altviool\, Guus Janssen piano\, Ernst Glerum bas\, Han Bennink drums \nSUN-MI HONG & ALISTAIR PAYNE\nTrompet en drums vormen een ongebruikelijke bezetting. Alistair Payne en Sun-Mi Hong laten het echter volkomen natuurlijk klinken door hun fantasierijke spel. Beide muzikanten zijn groot fan van het ICP-orkest. \nMARTA WARELIS SOLO\nMarta Warelis is een Poolse pianiste\, die met haar voorliefde voor improvisatie en experiment voortdurend zoekt naar nieuwe geluiden en invloeden. Haar werk haalt inspiratie uit diverse genres\, van cumbia en Angolese dansmuziek tot jazz en westerse klassieke muziek. \nREINIER BAAS & JORIS ROELOFS\nBasklarinettist Joris Roelofs staat bekend om zijn sublieme techniek en samenwerking met New Yorkse en Nederlandse topmusici. Naast zijn eigen muziekprojecten is Joris voorzitter van de afdeling klarinet (jazz) aan het Conservatorium van Amsterdam en promoveert hij aan de Universiteit van Amsterdam. \nReinier Baas (1985) is een gitarist\, componist en artiest uit Nederland met een eigenzinnig oeuvre. Jarenlang trad ze met een eigen band op\, maar dat is inmiddels alweer even geleden. De afgelopen jaren was ze met verschillende voorstellingen in het theater te zien. Toch begonnen het weer te kriebelen om met haar eigen muziek op een podium te staan. Amarins wisselt Engels en Nederlandstalige liedjes af. The merging of cultures resulted in a musical cross-fertilization that rapidly spread through the burgeoning suburbs of Athens\, Thessaloniki\, and Piraeus. Rebetiko lyrics touch upon themes of exile\, heartbreak\, suffering\, and social exclusion. Under the dictatorship of Ioannis Metaxas\, Rebetiko was branded as immoral\, and its proponents (rebetes) were imprisoned\, instruments were smashed\, and songs were censored. Despite all of this\, Rebetiko flourished\, was extensively recorded\, and is nowpopular once more\, with its themes remaining highly relevant today. \nIn the summer of 2022\, Méla (voice) and Johannes (lavta/bouzouki) delved deep into the soul of Rebetiko at Music Village\, Agios Lavrentios\, Greece. They now regularly jam with the Aman Molli open collective workshop at Joes Garage. This evening\, Eleni (ud\, voice)\, Anastasis (guitar) and Giannis (baglama) will join us. In some ways\, documentaries offered more grounding – they were dealing with real life and what was really happening on the streets\, in contrast to Hollywood feature films that were always fantasies. That is certainly true of this particularly rich and complex film. Made just one year before the Berlin Wall was brought crashing down\, it gives us a piercing image of the situation in East Germany in the late ’80s.\n\nHere we sink into the heart of that culture\, as a female filmmaker gets on a train and travels the length and breath of her country. She stops off at different cities and villages and explores the stories of how women are living in the GDR. We see how their living conditions were unsurprisingly more limited than in the West\, since the GDR was in no way a colonialist nation raking in profits from other lands. And although the role of women was by far better off in the GDR in contrast to their counterparts in West Germany\, still by the late 80s a kind of stagnation had settled in.\n\nDirector Helke Misselwitz travels to the Baltic coast\, to the Czechoslovakian border\, and to East Berlin. She finds a lot of disillusionment in the women she interviews who cross her path\, but she also finds optimism. We meet women from all walks of life\, and all different ages – from an 83-year old\, to a couple of runaway punks in Berlin. Insightful and playful (we even visit a doll hospital along the way)\, this is a terrific time capsule\, a vivid and lively snap-shot of a time and place that is now totally lost to us.

The restrictions prohibit the collection of the artichoke-like ’akkoub and za’atar (thyme)\, and have resulted in fines and trials for hundreds caught collecting these native plants. For Palestinians\, these laws constitute an ecological veil for legislation that further alienates them from their land while Israeli state representatives insist on their scientific expertise and duty to protect. Following the plants from the wild to the kitchen\, from the chases between the foragers and the nature patrol\, to courtroom defenses\, Foragers captures the joy and knowledge embodied in these traditions alongside their resilience to the prohibitive law. By reframing the terms and constraints of preservation\, the film raises questions around the politics of extinction\, namely who determines what is made extinct and what gets to live on. \n\n+\nexhibition by\nYehudit Mizrahi Dar
